The rodent control company we use recommended these without the poison bait. They explained that poisoned rats get eaten by hawks, falcons, and owls, which kills the birds, reducing the predator population and making the rat problem in the area worse instead of better. Instead, they put T-Rex Rat Traps (also available on Amazon) inside these stations, baited with peanut butter. You do need to check them regularly and dispose of dead rats, and you generally need to replace the peanut butter about once a week, but they're highly effective (we caught four rats this week with the four stations we have in our back yard), and we know for a fact that they're working.See the picture for the setup that's working for us. The stations have been screwed down to small concrete slabs (like you get at home improvement stores) with masonry screws to keep them in place. We have one in each corner of our back yard, placed along the fence line.
