Arc'teryx Dually Belay Parka Men's

I used this for sitting around base camp at 17,000 feet+, I was warm with just one medium thermal shirt underneath. Way to warm for hard physical exertion even below 0 C , definitely a "belay" parka. Very high quality, excellent all around.

My new favorite parka and I have owned all but the Canada Goose and all around this one is the best...huge inside storage pockets...amazing hood, hand warmer insulated pockets, light, not down, this parka will keep you warm and won't loose it's loft when damp like down does. I don't know what else Arcteryx can do to make it better...except lower the price but in my book there is nothing else out there like this parka.

Go to the ArcTeryx.com for perfect "True Fit" sizing. I was a bit worried spending $490 on a jacket/parka I haven't even worn before. But, I followed their best recommendation and brought a Medium. Even though most medium shirts fit a bit too tight when I'm over 190lbs, this parka fits me perfect! It truly is how they describe as "Expedition Fit". Enough room for me to layer over another jacket or just wear a T-shirt underneath.- Cuffs are a stretchable material. I uploaded a photo, as the main picture doesn't really show that.- Comes with pouch for easy storage- Hood is large, as it's helmet compatible. There are adjustments in the front and back for better fitting.- 2 large inside mesh pockets- 2 hand pockets with nice "felt/fleece" like material insideI plan to use this in Fairbanks, Alaska during the winter and will repost my review. Just from wearing it under 5 minutes, I can tell it will do the job in extreme cold conditions (-40° F/C) with proper layering. Hope to just have to wear this over a t-shirt when it's just under 0° F, as someone else had claimed about this parka.Age: 25Weight: 205 lbs.Waist: 32-34"Height: 6'0"**Update Winter 2016 - By far, the best $500 I've spent on any article of clothing.Living in Fairbanks, Alaska, I never have to worry about how cold it is outside with this jacket. When I say never, I mean it. I've been outside in -20F(-28C) and didn't realize it until my face and fingers started freezing. The inside pockets are perfect for any size gloves or gear you'd want to carry for quick access. I wear it every day with only a T-shirt or long sleeve shirt and rarely ever zip up the front. I never have to layer except where the coat doesn't cover.I won't make a Pros and Cons list on this jacket, because the only con would be that it's too warm. If you live some place that rarely drops below freezing, I would not recommend this to you. This is parka meant for expeditions into arctic type conditions. Parkas like this aren't supposed to "breathe", which is why never zip the front up. But for those days when I have to be outside in -40F and walk to a store because I forgot to plug in my car, this parka will keep me warm without even trying.

Not as light as a down jacket but still lighter than most synthetics and much lighter than a 300 weight fleece. Amazingly warm for weight, windproof and mostly water proof, this is a great jacket!

OK if this were a list $400 coat, and retailed for $250 or so, I'd give it five stars...BUT it lists for $625, and if you were lucky (and wanted to purchase this coat in March 2018), you could find it here at Amazon for $393 (free shipping and add the 5% Amazon credit card discount). At $393 this is an average coat and here's why:(a) in cold winter weather when wearing gloves, it is imperative to have a large chest/front YKK zipper (and not the smaller zipper on the jacket I received). If I am paying premium price for one of Arcteryx's top tier jackets, I demand/deserve top tier components. Did you ever try to open a small zipper with large mittens on? Hence the need for the large YKK zipper.(b) there are no exterior front panel pockets...so where do I keep my cell phone or something important I need to reach quickly? An inside pocket - but when it is cold do I really want to unzip the jacket to reach for such an item? All recent coats of quality have an outside front pocket for this reason...so Arcteryx missed the boat with this one.(c) sleeves: at the point where they reach your hands, the sleeves become all (soft) nylon sans insulation...what's worse that sort of nylon degrades easily, rips easily...and most quality coats have a finger (thumb) hole so the sleeve does not run up one's arm. Not this Arcteryx coat (Mountain Hardwear has such openings in their winter coats).(d) exterior nylon...soft. Will it hold up over time? I prefer taslanated nylon which makes the coat heavier but is also much more durable.(d) hood tighteners (adjustment straps) - are tough to cinch closed...and again are thin, tiny grips one needs two forefingers to adjust - how does one do that with heavy weight mittens on?(e) fill - I put the coat on in my house (it is 65f inside at 1:30pm here in NYC inside my home): I was a bit warmer but I could wear this coat for a while and not perspire...so how warm will it be in the outdoors if I am standing around and not exercising?(f) the side pockets (ample and roomy) have only half lining with fleece! My goodness what would it have cost Arcteryx to do both sides of the interior pocket with fleece?-------------------------ON the positive: the coat is cut a bit larger than its size for layering. I would usually order an XL for layering, but for this one, Large was fine. I am 6'1" and 210...so the large fits me well with and without a fleece layer (and shirt/t-shirt)The coat is cut long in the back and it seems (even inside my home), this will be of great benefit once I test the coat outside.Black color is nice.Interior pockets are great and sturdy.
