Colocasia is a rhizomatic perennial native to southeastern Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Recent introductions have been bred for garden use, are sturdy, disease resistant and produce spectacular foliage and stems. Use in borders or pots and containers for an amazing tropical effect. Kona Coffee produces a two tone effect with the elongated, heart shaped leaves emerging green, rapidly turning a deep coffee colour.   Contrasts very well with brightly coloured plants.  Prefers full sun to dappled shade in moist fertile soil. Excellent beside streams or ponds. Will tolerate dryer soil but will grow slowly.  Perfoms very well when planted in a pot or other container as long as the moisture conditions are met. Use a good quality compost and ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. These plants are not frost hardy, treat as annuals or can be brought in during winter.  Keep just moist and at a temperature no less than 5C. or lift the rhizomes and store in peat or similar over winter, in a frost free location. Pot up in spring for an even bigger plant!  Some Colocasia are edible. This one is not.
