Wonderful addition to any home library
This book would make a great addition to any home library. It’s a sweet story about two kids who live on opposite sides of a fence that divides the town into different sections for different races. Their parents tell each girl to stay on their own side of the fence because that’s the way it’s always been. But the girls each want a playmate and figure a way around the rule. The ending makes me cry every time. So sweet.

"The Other Side" is a great Collection of Poetry.
I found Jessica Brooke's poetry to be very powerful and expressive. She really has a way with creating beautiful images. Her feelings and moods come right out at you! You feel like you are actually there in that place. Some of the places haven't been pleasant to say the least. "Beat me Into a Boy" is very vivid example of anger and hate. It's one of my favorite. Another one of my favorites is "Melody of the Night". Ms. Brooke's poetry is of the quality that makes you want to come back and read again and again. "Shadow" is a brilliant journey through her emotions to where she is now. I highly recommend reading "The Other Side"!

Every child should have this in their collection
What a great book and such a wonderful story of kids being kids without any adult interference and racial manipulation. Reminds me when I was a kid and the friends I made that lived across the street. The illustration is superb too. Hope there are more stories from the Author.

The Other Side
It is an excellent book for all ages.It is powerful in sharing how we are all people, and special. It tells of the innocence of children and how they love and care for each other.Adults can receive a lesson from this beautifully illustrated and well written piece of literature. For myself and those I shared this with --we are reminded how important our brothers and sisters of color are, and that we are to not stereotype, and to tear down any barriers and live together. This book was purchased through Amazon.com!Thank you.

A very powerful story about segregation
I love seeing how children see the world colorless when not the influences of adults fears or unwillingness to see us all as equals. I used this story with my students every year.

Powerful!
Jacqueline Woodson is a true inspiration, role model, and unsung hero. I am personally honored to have been able to share the experience of reading and conversation with my own family.
