Insulation tears
As described but had to be extremely careful separating the 2 parts as the joint seems stronger than the material. When making up the ends etc you'll obviously need to pull them apart but it easily tears off exposing wire, usually not a convenient place. Use a very sharp knife or scalpel to assist
