Osprey Stratos 34 Men's Hiking Backpack, Eclipse Blue, Small/Medium

I got it from Amazon Warehouse and it’s like new. Design is good, it checks all my list: internal frame, air gap to my back, built in rain cover, TSA carry-on size, waist pocket, hydration compatible.Solid.

This is just a perfect backpack for me. After wearing its previous version for 2 years, the mesh started to wear out and rub my T-shirts and fleeces thus forming bobbling. This updated version has no such problems. It has bigger mesh size which looks long-lasting.They've added an extra zipped pocket in front which is also nice. Blue colour is definately is a winner.Somehow, it's even more comfortable to carry heavy weight than the previous version. I usually take up to 10 kg and it feels very comfortable.This year, they've moved the chest strap buckle from the right side to the left side. Strange decision, it'll take some time for me to adapt.Hey, don't throw away waist strap buckles of your previous model if you are updating. I attached them to the bottom of shoulder straps to clasp the new buckles in order to avoid hitting them with my hands while walking if waist straps are not used.

Comfortable. Fits my 5'0" frame. Can carry fairly hefty weight and not feel it in the wrong places. If not adjusted properly, it can rub. It is easy to adjust all straps while walking and can be changed multiple times as you get tired. Also, the raincover works. Really works.

Even though I fully extended the straps on this pack I could not get this pack on my shoulders. Have had many packs over my 60 years of hiking and this was the worst pack I have ever tried. I sure hope this was a manufacturing error. with the straps attached to close to the center of the pack. If I can wear 20L packs easily, I would expect a 34L to have straps set wide enough to get the pack on my shoulders. FWIW I am not a large bodied person.

I purchased this pack in the S/M size for my husband as a gift. He is slender, but muscular. The pack was perfect in terms of internal size, belt length, and accessibility of pockets and buckles. However, the harness cut into the muscles of his neck, because the point at which they connect to the moveable backerboard is very narrow. This was with only nominal (5lbs?) weight in it.It would have been unbearable loaded and on the trail. We tried adjusting based off of the website, and just trial and error. Nothing made it comfortable. We even went to a local REI and asked for their help. We could get the width correct only by putting the backerboard so far down on the velcro connector that the straps were then too short, with the padded parts ending only a few inches below the collar bone. I'm only 2" shorter than he is, so we decided to order him a M/L to see if the harness was different. It worked. I have kept the S/M for myself. Bottom line is, my husband is 5' 5", slender framed, but muscular. According to the measurements, he should have used S. So if you're muscular or have a broader neck/ shoulder, you may want to consider sizing up for comfort. I am very happy that Osprey had provided so many options to help you get the exact right fit.

Since I have bought this backpack, I have been on 2 -3 day hikes with it and a 1 day hike. Once I got it adjusted, I am very happy with it. The mesh back panel makes a huge difference in how much your back sweats. My previous backpack had a solid back, and my back sweat soaked my t-shirt. The first day I hiked with this pack, It was a hot summer day. I could feel the air passing behind my back, keeping it cool with very little sweat that day. The next 2 trips were in cooler weather in the mountains around Ponca, Arkansas. The weather was in the 50's. I could still feel the air passing through the back. No back sweats. Love the airspeed suspension. My only regret was that I wish I would have bought the Stratos 50. I like to take plenty of stuff with me. On the cooler trips I had extra, bulky clothes and they take up a lot of the room in this pack. No fault of this pack. Fine in warmer weather, but not enough space in cool weather in my opinion.
