Incredibly well done and presented
Thank you Alexander S. White!!! This is the second of Mr. White's wonderful Photographer Guides that I've purchased, and they are truly indispensable. I acquired both of them in the last couple of months, but wish I'd known about them much earlier. I bought the Fujifilm X-30 over a year ago, and printed up the Fuji 277 page manual in an effort to learn how to fully use my X-30. Despite all those pages (lots of wasted space with very modest content), that manual was only mildly useful at best. I figured there was enough similarity between the X10 (this book) and my X-30, so I got this book in the hopes it would be useful with my later model Fuji. It is greatly helpful both as a learning tool and a reference (instead of that blasted manual), so I'm glad I purchased it. Mr. White has an impressive ability to explain and illustrate the various functions on this, and quite a few other, digital cameras in his numerous other books. I came out of 35+ years of using film cameras, and while some of the concepts translate to the digital world, I was left more than a little lost in the increasingly complex digital camera version of photography. I never totally understood what new new digital cameras could actually do, and I didn't entirely understand their various limitations. Therefore, I tended to get stuck with using Auto settings because when difficult photo situations arose, I couldn't adequately dip into the other possibilities contained within my digital cameras. I might read about a function in the camera manual, but then forget about it later, mostly because I didn't fully understand what was going on. White's books explain it all in an extremely user friendly manner. His books are for "the rest of us" without being overly simplistic. His information is clear, concise, well explained and illustrated, and as a result, I finally understand how my digital cameras work and what they can do, and this fuller understanding has made me able to finally get the most out of my cameras. Prior to this book, I bought his book for my Canon S-95, which I've had since 2010 and which I still couldn't properly use (beyond Auto). Given the pathetic state of the camera "manual" you get from the camera manufacturers these days, I find Mr. White's books to be an absolute necessity in understanding my cameras. Highly highly recommended to everyone. I'm contemplating getting yet another camera (Panasonic this time), and I guarantee I will be purchasing Mr. White's book for that one too.

If you have an X10, you should have this book!
Having decided to buy a more sophisticated camera I purchased my Fujifilm X10 almost as soon as it came out, and when I opened the box I immediately studied the included owner's manual. Like most company-written manuals it quickly explained the camera's settings but, like most company manuals, it didn't give any suggestions about which settings were considered "standard" and which should only be chosen for a particular situation. It just explained what each function and setting did. (The manual was actually written better than most, but it tended to overwhelm me with unnecessary details before I understood the camera's basic functions and controls.) After setting up my camera and taking many, many photos I felt a bit frustrated that I never really achieved the results I felt I should get from such a camera. There's no doubt that this is an amazing camera, and I felt that the photos I took with it should be consistently outstanding. But to be honest, my photos seemed to be about the same quality as I had achieved with my cheaper point-and-shoot cameras. Then I purchased this book. Wow! After reading the first few pages I realized that I hadn't chosen the correct settings for my needs; hadn't downloaded the newest Firmware update (the author tells you how); and never realized what I could do with this incredible camera. This book has been a revelation! Reading it is like having one of the designers from the Fujifilm camera factory sit down with you and slowly but methodically explain the camera's functions one by one. The author, Alexander White, tells you what settings to use if you just want to snap vacation photos, and what to do if you want to utilize the camera's advanced functions. The book is clearly thought out, written in a pleasant, conversational style, and well illustrated. If you have a Fujifilm X10, you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you don't purchase this book. My only complaint --- I wish the book were spiral-bound so it would lay flat while I am trying to both read and fiddle with my camera at the same time. I also wish the book had been printed on glossy paper so the color illustrations would be a little crisper --- but that's a very minor complaint. This is the author's ninth book in his "Photographer's Guide" series, and I believe all of his books are self-published.

Well written, like all his other guides.....
I bought this book on a few recommendations from various Fuji forums that it will also help with the Fuji X-S1.....and it IS a great guide for the X-S1 also. There is very little control & menu changes between the 2 evidently, almost to the point of appearing to use the same software version.I would say 80% of this book applies to the X-S1, it is the manual that should have been included with the camera IMHO.With that said, I bought the B&W version to save some $$ initially, and the author did send along a color copy upon request in PDF, epub, or kindle versions, your choice. And as much as I love having my table with me when shooting to look up info, at home I wanted the color version. So I also bought the color version.Bottom line, skip the B&W version, you absolutely NEED the color version for most of the book to see what is being described. Save a few weeks more & grab the color version, you will thank me later. As for requesting a color e-version when you buy the color version, I am not sure if he would send it along...but it would not hurt to try! LOL!

The user's manual with a human side.
It is as if it were the manual of the camera, but with a human and non-technical side as is every manual that comes with a product in the box. The author understands the equipment very well and I felt better reading this book than the manual itself.

Just what I needed!
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I hate reading user manuals that come with high-end electronics, and cameras head the list. It's a bit like reading an encyclopedia--this button does this, etc for +200 pages. This book is different. It thoroughly explains the menus, buttons and what settings to use to get good pictures. The X10 is a very powerful camera, and I was totally overwhelmed with the settings and especially the menus--they went on and on. This book explains the main settings and the menu choices that go with them, and gives good advice on how to choose so that you get a good photo. It is written in a friendly, gentle style that is easy to read and understand.Highly recommended.

X20が発売になりましたが、私の中でX10そのものの価値が下がった訳ではないので長い付き合いをしたいと思います。カラーだともっと良かったですが。

Ideal companion
I purchased the book a few days after receiving the Fujifilm X10. My decision to buy was based on previous reviews of the book and I must say all the good things written about Mr. White's book are true. The book has given me confidence in using the camera and a real understanding of what all the different controls and menu options are doing. I am fairly new to digital photography and this book is a real help in leading me up a steep learning curve!

Très contente. Même si je ne suis pas bilingue, le texte est facile à comprendre, pour le moment.
