The Vortex Solar Shed Light is a powerful mains free lighting solution for indoor use in sheds and outbuildings. The Vortex contains 36 LEDs but has 3 settings so you can operate it using 12, 24 or all 36 LEDs. The Vortex comes with a powerful 1.5w solar panel making it fit for year round use in the UK. Please note that the Vortex is designed to charge by day and work at night so the unit will not operate if the panel is in daylight unless you unplug the solar panel.

The light will not come on while it is charging.
The light is sufficiently bright enough to locate whatever it is you're looking for. I bought a 10 metre long extension lead as my shed is in the shade, you need an extension lead for a 2.1mm centre pin this allowed me to route the cable through my garage to a suitable south facing wall so that the panel faces the sun. I found the extension lead on ebay £3.19 inc postage. What the advert doesn't explain is that the light will not switch on while the unit is being charged so if like me you need a light to operate during daylight hours you will need to either disconnect the solar panel by unplugging it or splice into the lead and insert an in-line switch which will of course nullify the warranty I imagine.I would still buy another if the need arise.I wrote to Solar Centre on this matter and their reply was to inform me that these lights are designed to work after dark and that if they are used in daylight the batteries could become depleted.

a good
Bought this for my small hen house so the coop is lit up inside during dusk and the hens will gravitate to the light (Meaning i can lock them up earlier in Winter!)Does exactly what i needed it for.I guess my only "Wish list" would be for some form of timer or sensor so the light is only on for a set time and does not just run flat every night - Also, the rechargeable batterys are located in the light itself and hard to get to (You need to take the whole unit apart to get to them)Otherwise, a good product

no mains needed
love the idea of not needing to run mains power down to our new shed, fits very easily , well made and with a choice of lighting levels on the box and a good length of lead from the solar panel, only one small niggle I have noticed with this is that the light unit will not work when plugged into the solar panel , once unplugged it works fine , and there are no instructions or troubleshooting tips in the box to help either as I said its a small thing

Just what I needed
Having annexed the teenagers' weight training out to the shed I was dreading having to get electricity out there. This little gem was much cheaper than the cable would have been !! The instructions are very simple but you do need to watch where the sun hits for the majority of the day, because that's where you need to put the solar panel. Attempting to put the solar panel where its easy or looks neater, but out of sunlight, will reduce its battery charging greatly. In all but the most overcast days it has provided very adequate light for at least couple of hours each day.

Shed Light
This is a very good shed light, nice long cable from the solar cells to the light, the light is very bright and has different brightness settings. I brought the shed light to be used in the day and night as my shed is quite dark during the day, I did not realise until I purchased it that the light will not turn on while it is charging in the day. This means I have to unplug the charging cable when I want to turn the light on in the daytime. A minor inconvenience but worth knowing before you buy.

Good shed light, but with one issue.
It's a good shed light but with one failing. You can't have power charging the batteries and make the light work simultaneously. You have to unplug the power lead to turn the light on. In the dark of the shed that's not always easy. Otherwise it's perfect and I couldn't see on Amazon a better one that acted like a normal switched light and not a sensor only one.

Badly designed light sensor position
The light sensor is positioned on the solar panel NOT on the light fitting. As a result the light will not work if there is ANY light outside. As a result you have to unplug the solar panel from the light fitting before the light will switch on and then remember to plug it back in again to ensure charging. This is not explained in the description and is very irritating and inconvenient.

Great little light. Rigged it up in the greenhouse
Ideal light I put in our new greenhouse, which has no electricity. Gives a reasonable light level even on low setting. The light unit's mounting was a bit tricky and would benefit from being more flexible for different surfaces. The switches are a bit fiddley too! when feeling around in the dark its not easy to find. I do like the fact you can select the 3 settings of brightness. Not too bad for the money.
