KENWOOD KDC-BT720DAB Car Radio,Black

The product received and hence reviewed was the KDC-BT740DAB rather than the KDC-BT720DAB and hence this review is for the former. The 740 appears to be an upgrade to the 720.Generally, this is a very nice product that works to specification. I installed it into my car to replace the original Kenwood radio and the installation was smooth - although I did have fun pushing the DAB antenna and microphone wires behind the dashboard. Once installed, setup was largely automatic and I liked the way you can configure the display colour. DAB setup is not completely intuitive as it does not seamlessly integrate stations accross the available multiplexes. As you skip forward to each station, when it comes to the end of the multiplex, you then see it searching for the next multiplex before you can resume the skip forward. The Medium Wave (MW) Band is also the Long Wave (LW) band although this is not clear from the setup and you have to advance down the frequencies to find LW (which is still useful if you want to pick up BBC Radio 4 on the near continent).The terminology in the user manual is also unusual in that it uses "ensemble" instead of "multiplex" when it describes the DAB function.The one real gripe is in the product description where is says "(DAB ANTENNA REQUIRED)" rather than "(DAB ANTENNA INCLUDED)". If you look at the Kenwood website, both the 720 and the 740 include the DAB antenna. As a result of this description and because the Amazon website prompted me to add a DAB antenna (normally purchased with, etc. etc.) I added an unnecessary and now unused DAB Antenna to the purchase.Kenwood also provide an app for Android/IOS to control the system. I did try this, but it is not worth the space it uses up in the phone memory - it was deleted. It was easier and better to use the front panel to control and configure the system. The product also alledgedly supports both Spotify and Alexa. However, as neither are to my liking, I did not review either. At least I could disable Spotify as a source and hence it no longer appears as you scroll through the sources.

Looks great in my Jag S-Type with a good upgrade kit. Not too hard for retirees like me to set up either. DAB is very good with supplied w/screen antenna. No ghastly bubbling sound if I lose the signal in a dip, which happened only once so far. Sadly my excellent local garage could not figure how to connect the steering wheel controls. There was too little information - even on the net. That means I can't adjust anything except volume while driving because the FP controls are so tiny. A backward step. Never mind. The unit is very good on FM, DAB and CD playback. Haven't tried the USB input yet. Overall, very pleased.

Controls are not as easy to get used to as the Pioneer DEH7800 DAB.

Great quality sound from DAB audio and dual phone connectivity. Fitted in Renault Megane Rs225 Cup 2005my.

Pros:Sporify enabled via Bluetooth on the phone.Able to use head unit to access call log and make calls.Decent sound for the price.Lots of sound quality tweaks to get an ideal sound for different genres of music.Cons:Almost impossible to use whilst on the move.Too many sub menus on a small screen.Not as attractive as other models.

The instruction manual is not useable - incomprehensible technical words which probably only mean something to an audio technician or native speaker of whatever language the manual was originally written in. Pictures are too small for details to be read. All in all quite the worst electronic item I have ever bought

No much top end power but works well

This was hard to find as it was practically the last one in the UK for Sale. Kenwood have brought out later models which don't have all of the features this one does. Thankfully I saved the details a while back and managed to locate this one for a Christmas gift to my hubby. :)
