Star Wars: The Last Jedi
First up, I am a Star Wars fan, but am in no way a knowledgeable one. I know there is a lot of controversy about this film and for that reason, I waited until now to watch it; however, I liked it. Is it the best movie yet? No, but then again, it is the middle of a trilogy and as such it does a good job of introducing new characters, killing off known ones (some surprising deaths there) and taking the story forward. The acting is good, the characters are developed well in the time available (there are a lot of people in this story), and the cinematography and effects are what you would expect from a Star Wars film. Even though there are a lot of characters, the film manages to stay grounded in the dynamics between them. Spoiler Alerts! Personally, I thought the time given to Luke and Rey in order to explore the nature of the Force was worthwhile. The Porgs weren't really as big a deal as I thought they'd be. More of a tongue in cheek aside to the other 'cute' creatures in previous Star Wars films. I'm not going to say more because then I would be getting into serious Spoiler Alert territory. Watch it and see.

Still stirs the senses
I remember the thrill of watching the first Star Wars film at the Odeon in Tottenham Court Road. It was like the best Saturday morning at the pictures. This brought back all the same emotions as good strove to overcome evil. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Split opinions within the household
There are some many opinions on Star Wars movies, everybody has one. It is like sharing political views or commenting on a sports match. Now I’m a completely biased day-1 enthusiast and given my monthly spent on Star Wars-related product I probably suffer from a complete lack of objectivenessIn short, I did like parts of the movie and I will watch it many times again. In fact thesis my second purchase of the movie as we bought the Blu Ray first but now the children insist on having it ready on their iPads when travelling, so a digital copy was convent. So the children actually like the movie very much because Rey and Finn are in there. Yet it’s among my least favourite movies in the series (which barely is a reference to most people as I rank the Phantom Menace among my top 3 Star Wars movies!)So I’m one of these old-school whiners who believe there was something wrong with this chapter in the trilogy. Not in terms of acting or visuals but with respect to the storyline and events. I don’t need to go into detail but to my mind the director got too much leeway with the story and characters leading to some unsatisfying and questionable events and overall disjointed, shallow story line. Sure its space opera and one shouldn’t expect much. Perhaps it will grow on me when I watch it more often. But in my view it’s just a shame that something that has become public lore over a period of 40 years can be so radically adjusted by the views of a single person who clearly had less affinity with the material than many others. It’s like a new pope deciding to rewrite the new testament, good luck with that. This HD Prime version we bought is excellent.

An absolutely fantastic movie.
An absolute future of new beginnings. Those that feel let down by The Last Jedi only fear a Star Wars without our beloved characters ever returning. Unfortunately those characters, the changes, and the story which was once the reasoning behind our own enthusiasm, must come to an end.By my understanding George Lucas still has a say in all movies relating to the Star Wars Universe, and the path in which the story takes. Including The Last Jedi, so those who discredit this fact are very much emotionally basing Star Wars from day one!The movie is clearly trying to tell us all that our long beloved characters, and their story, is now coming to an end. Rian Johnson making this point, not because he wants to undo everything from the birth of Star Wars to The Force Awakens, but the story has to change, eventually, otherwise we would be watching remakes forever to suit our own enthusiastic past. The new characters that so many complain about are not meant to be evolved to the point where we all know them. They are new characters which may become part of an entirely new story, within another Galaxy, not related to the saga in which we once new.It is not that hard to grasp, and those which feel everything is being undone, are wrong. The last Jedi really does not have to explain itself, all our favourite characters are still in, apart from Hans, which will soon awaken in another spin off. The story is still of a War between good and evil. Snoke did not need a back story, because, sith lords are finishing, and Kylo Ren has yet to be proven as such. And as such the story will conclude in 2019.Otherwise, an excellently crafted movie, with visuals that never fail. Humour at times, which for me has always been at some form of backdrop in all Star Wars movies, never bothered me then, why so now.Enjoy.
